First time I've been able to make it to this long running winter bird festival in extreme southern Oregon and Northern California...
Tundra Swans were everywhere!!
Weather started out OK…but then deteriorated over a couple days…by noon it was raining quite steady…better than what was to come!?
Found the Snow Geese!! Maybe a couple thousand here today...
Snow Geese are always amazing to watch…they don't do anything unless they all do it at once!!
Couple eagles in no hurry to go anywhere…they posed quite nicely in the rain until harassed by a large group of little birds?! then eventually flew off looking for quieter surroundings I guess

Next morning the rain had stopped…yes... and was traded out for a raging wind…ugh…
I was hunkered down behind a guard rail behind my vehicle trying to get out of the wind to keep the camera and lens from shaking…good new was the swans were landing in my general direction…but they were a little too far away...

Little bit of ice left over from the freeze last week...
Went down to Northern California to another part of the vast NWR…most everything was hunkered down out of the wind…except this large flock of Black Birds and they were very entertaining trying to hang on in the wind...

When in the brush they were hanging on for dear life, getting swayed and tossed left, right, up and down…all at once!!

Found a nice little photo blind..not sure I could ever find it again, but just in case, you can reserve it!?
The walk way was actually >100 yards out to the edge of the marsh.
Perches were set up in a large field and the birds were taken out one at a time to fly from perch to perch, baited by the handlers.
Sunday am broke partly sunny, moderate winds and now snow!?
Did a live raptor shoot with some captive raptors from the High Desert Museum in Bend, OR.
The Turkey Vulture did one and only one lap…landed by his crate and started scratching and biting at the handle to get back in…guess it was too cold and windy for him!!

This Barn Owl was much more accommodating!! Notice the antenna hanging in some of the pix…all were fitted with a transmitter…just in case!
Sorry about the pole by the wing…was not exactly sure how to remove that in PhotoShop without doing other damage…still much to learn on the post processing stuff...
Beautiful bird!! The main curator and other handlers were always very gentle, respectful and protective of the birds. You can tell they all spend much time together.
This bird is well armed!!
